Earth Hour 2010 is here. The date is 27th March and the time 8.30 to 9.30 pm wherever you are.
Last year I was in the Andaman Islands and I remember how pleasant it was sitting in the verandah of our bungalow in the stiff sea -breeze, chatting as a family with all the lights off. I read last year that we saved 1200MW of electricity in citites across India in 2009.
This year, I'm home and we plan to spend the hour on the terrace with family and a few close friends. Even if there is no sea, I know there will be a cool breeze and I hope the moon and the stars will be out.
No TV, no laptop, no IPL, no light, no fan, no airconditioner--just for that one hour, pretend it's a power-cut you ordered. Let's double the Megawatts we save in India this year. By making this token gesture, we'll be making a point about conservation, about global warming, about caring for the planet that has given us life and all the resources to live it.
